Witches' Flight
Francisco de Goya, 1798Fine art reproduction on 200gsm matte paper. A5 to A2, plus 12x16 and 18x24 inches.A marble café table, a green chair, and above them three witches carrying a man into the night. Imagine taking your morning coffee under this.
Witches' Flight by Francisco Goya shows three witches rising into a black sky, a struggling man held between them. On the ground below, a man hides under a white sheet and hopes they will not see him. Another lies flat on the earth. Look closely at the tall pointed hats. They are corozas, the caps the Spanish Inquisition forced on the people it condemned. Inky black night, pale bodies and a glow of yellow and green from the witches' robes.
Goya painted it in 1798, one of six witchcraft scenes bought by the Duke and Duchess of Osuna for their country house outside Madrid. He was mocking superstition, not believing in it. His witches wear the costume of the Inquisition's victims, turning the accusation back on the accusers. Notice the donkey on the right, an old symbol of ignorance, untroubled by it all. Goya was 52 and already deaf when he painted it. The painting stayed in private hands for two centuries and joined the Museo del Prado, Madrid, in 1999.
The look
Inky black night, pale bodies and a glow of yellow and green from the witches' robes. Strange, wild and unforgettable, a small painting with enormous energy. Gothic wall art and witchy decor for a dark academia study, a gothic bedroom or a hallway.

Custom sizes on request. Inch sizes have a slightly different shape from A sizes, so the edges trim a little. Size guide
