Albert Joseph Penot painted La Femme Chauve-Souris, The Bat Woman, around 1890. A pale figure spreads enormous dark wings across a night sky, part woman, part creature of the dark.
The painting belongs to the fin de siècle fascination with the femme fatale, the dangerous woman of Symbolist art and gothic fiction. It was exhibited at the Paris Salon and sold at Sotheby's in 2018 for £137,500.
The look
Black wings, moonlit skin and deep night shadow. Dramatic, seductive and unmistakably gothic. Gothic wall art suited to a goth bedroom or dark academia dressing room.

Custom sizes on request. Inch sizes have a slightly different shape from A sizes, so the edges trim a little. Size guide
