Still Life with Flowers in a Glass Vase
Jan Davidsz. de Heem, 1650-1683Fine art reproduction on 200gsm matte paper. A5 to A1, plus 12x16, 18x24 and 24x36 inches. An impossible bouquet. Flowers from every season bloom together, with a snail and spiders hiding in the stems.
Jan Davidsz. de Heem painted Still Life with Flowers in a Glass Vase in the second half of the 1600s. The bouquet could never have existed: tulips, roses and wild flowers from different seasons open together in one glass vase.
Look closely and the painting turns darker. A snail, beetles and spiders hide among the leaves, reminders of decay inside beauty. De Heem was one of the most admired flower painters of the Dutch Golden Age. The original hangs in the Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam.
The look
Jewel-bright blooms glowing against deep black. Lush, detailed and quietly unsettling. Dark floral wall art suited to a dark cottagecore kitchen, dining room or dark academia study.
